| • Community Service in Waianae |
Because of the many accidents and fatalities in Waianae, the Double Deckers decided to apply for the Hawaii 4-H Foundation mini-grant. The members made signs and posters on July 11, that said, “Don’t Drink and Drive,” “Arrive Alive,” “Speed Kills,” and etc. On July 18, the members met at Nanakuli Beach Park and held their many signs to educate the passing motorists about making responsible choices. The club members received numerous encouragement and support from the public. There were horn-blowing, siren brusts, shaka signs, hand waving, and smiles. You could actually see the motorists reading the signs. A father joined us because he lost a child from a drunk driver. Our members learned to be aware of Safety issues for themselves and others.
Samson “Puna” Kama Jr.
