Hawaii State 4-H Livestock Show and SaleThe culmination of a 4-H member's work and efforts in the livestock project is the Hawaii State 4-H Livestock Show and Sale. It takes place annually at the beginning of the Hawaii Farm Fair in late June to early July. The event is open to all youth who are members in a Hawaii 4-H club, own animal(s) exhibited and are enrolled in the given species project. Animals exhibited are normally those which have received a blue ribbon award at the respective
county 4-H show. Animals normally enter the fair grounds on Wednesday, and are shown on Friday and Saturday and sold at the 4-H auction on Saturday evening. Livestock and meat judging usually takes place on Thursday, awards brunch on Sunday and carcass shows within a week at meat packing plants. Pending the availability of resources, the senior county livestock judging team with the highest state contest score represents Hawaii at the'Western Regional 4-H Livestock Judging contest in Denver, Colorado. The Hawaii State Livestock Council financially assists to the extent of 1/2 of the total cost. The county team and the respective county 4-H livestock committee pay the other half. Complete details of rules, regulations, and type of awards are available in the publication, "Hawaii State 4-H Livestock Show and Sale," available in county and state 4-H offices.
