Overview
Healthy, productive soils are the foundation of a secure food system. In Hawaii, where soil properties vary dramatically across the landscape, developing soil management strategies to maintain healthy and productive soils is challenging. My program focuses on assisting farmers in Hawaii implement soil management practices that maintain good crop production, and more importantly, enhance soil quality and protect the soil for future generations. Our work integrates research and extension activities with a strong commitment to farmers throughout Hawaii. In addition, I teach TPSS 304 Fundamentals of Soil Science every Fall semester and employ a number of students in my lab.
