MAY - Tomato

Tomatoes come in a variety of colors and shapes ranging from red, pink, yellow and orange, to round and oblong. When looking for tomatoes, choose ones that are smooth, well ripened, and have no bruises. The most common way of eating tomatoes are to slice them raw and eat them in salads or sandwiches. Tomatoes are also a great addition to stir fries and soups, and may also be dried or roasted.

Seasonality:
Tomatoes are at their peak availability between the months of May through September.

Nutrition:
Tomatoes are just under 95% water and are a good source of vitamin A, high in vitamin C, and contain a substantial amount of lycopene when cooked.

Storage:
Store tomatoes at room temperature. Ripe tomatoes can be kept up to 2 days.
