School Gardens
From tiny garden boxes to school peace gardens and on-campus farms, school gardens and agriculture education are making a comeback in Hawai‘i and across the US. Learn about the proven benefits of school gardens, Hawai‘i's local movement, and the O‘ahu Master Gardener's school garden mini-certification. Be inspired to join the fun and rediscover the joys of gardening - with kids!
Aquaponics for Home Gardeners with UH Maui Master Gardener, Larry Yonashiro.
This class will give the Master Gardener the tools needed to manage aquaponics Help Desk cases. No previous knowledge or experience in aquaponics is required. The class will teach the basic principles of aquaponics needed to clarify and understand the client's question, and follow a flowchart to a resolution that is acceptable to the client. The goal is not necessarily for the Master Gardener to provide a specific solution, but to provide enough information so that the client will be equipped to find a solution on his/her own.
Grafting Fruit Trees & Ornamentals with UH O'ahu Master Gardeners Richard Karamatsu and Steve Oshiro.
The art of grafting with the Oahu MG Grafting Hui. Selection of rootstock, care of rootstock, scion selection, grafting techniques, tools and material.
Breadfruit and Fruit Tree Management with Ian Cole, Breadfruit Institute.
Ian will provide information on the Breadfruit Institute and cultivating breadfruit. In addition, he will discuss responsible orchard management for building soil in Hawaii.
