Areas of Interest

  • Bioremediation/phytoremediation
  • Waste Management
  • Machine Design

Education

  • M.S. Agricultural Engineering, University of Hawaii, Honolulu, HI.,1984.
  • B.S. Civil Engineering, University of Hawaii, Honolulu, HI.,1980.

Research Interests

I am interested in all research that the MBBE Department generates. As a “resource engineer” for the faculty, I am requested to assist in many aspects of engineering, process and systems, bioremediation, waste management, and traditional agriculture involving items such as machine and stuructural designs, horticultural and agronomic activities.

Current ongoing research work includes the following:

  • Phytoremediation of acutely hazardous pesticides (dioxin super fund site).
  • Growth hormone crop and sprouting studies using natural plant extracts.
  • Anaerobic digestion heating of pilot scale reactors for organic wastes.
  • Composting optimization of swine waste for vegetable crop use.
  • Reduction of chlorinated compounds by switching aerobic and anaerobic.
  • Non-point source pollution prevention w/water and nutrient management.
  • Managing departmental machine shop activities.

Course Instructor

  • • BE 351 (Lab) Energy Conversion and Power Units

Activities and Memberships

  • Vice-chair, American Society for Agricultural Engineers, Hawaii Section (2000-Present)
  • Facities Management and Design, Bioengineering program, UH Manoa, (1985-Present)
  • Registered Professional Engineer, State of Hawaii, 1997 (#9167)
