FCS Overview Our History and Mission

The Department of Family and Consumer Sciences is guided by its vision to be a leader in the development and dissemination of information that supports individuals, families, businesses, and communities in the State and the Asia-Pacific region. The departments instructional, research, and outreach programs focus on family resources and apparel product design and merchandising, and include 4-H/youth development programs; agricultural, family, and community leadership programs; and the Center on the Family, a research/outreach unit.

Careers:

A major in Family Resources may lead to careers in counseling, non-profit program leadership, early childhood education, family life education, parent education, youth services.
The Apparel Product Design and Merchandising major may lead to such careers as apparel designer, buyer, sales representative, costume designer, manufacturer, store manager or owner.
