Brief description: Mealani Experiment station consists of 1 cottage, 1 workshop/garage building used for repairs, welding, etc. (8,000 ft2), 1 office/workshop building used for samples, weighing, drying, etc. (2,250 ft2), 2 supply storage sheds (750 ft2 and 220 ft2), 2 green houses (2,000 ft2 total), 6 pen wooden corral with scale and work shed.
Current Activities: Research activities in the areas of sheltered crops including hydroponics ginger and watercress; green tea slections; protea germplasm; corn disease resistance in sweet and grain corn; alternative crops such as artichokes and strawberries; and kikuya variety selections.
