Paddy Crop Research Station (Kauai County)

Brief description: The Paddy Crop Research Station (PCRS) is located in the Kula Lots, Wailua Houselots. The PCRS is a very small facility with a vehicle/tractor garage and lavatory/storage building. The PCRS is composed of State and private holdings.
Current Activities: The topics currently under research at the PCRS include tropical fruit trees, fruit fly control, termites, vegetable breeding, papaya breeding, awa, heliconia, and taro research. ARS personnel is responsible for all research concerning fruit flies. HARC personnel conduct field trials and are active in papaya research on the farm. Weeds research is conducted by Beltsville researhcers at the station.
Special events: The 7th Annual Agricultural and Environmental Awareness Day was conducted on March 1, 2001. The event attracted 2,000 students. Short lectures and displays are presented by industry, county and state agencies as well as the University of Hawaii.
