SATURDAY APPLICATION GUIDELINES GRADES 7 to 8

2015 - 2016 Saturday GENE-iuses applications for grade 7 to 8 students is CLOSED.


Have you ever wondered what it would be like to be a crime scene investigator? Join us for a fun filled year of forensic science at UH Manoa to find out!
Students will be transported back in time to investigate a crime scene that took place during the 1800’​s and discover the skills ​needed to become fabulous forensic scientists. Students will ​be transformed into experts ​on​ hair and finger print analysis, evaluating shoe prints, blood testing, and even bloodstain pattern analysis! They will also explore the importance of DNA evidence in solving crimes.

Fees

$210 per student
(Includes 9 lab fees, classroom materials, and graduation event)

How to Apply?

The application process is closed and all seats are filled.

1) Complete Online Application: Completed applications are submitted to the program for review. When evaluating applicants, the Saturday GENE-iuses program looks for strong interest in science, intellectual curiosity, and a readiness for participation in an independent academic environment.

2) Two Letters of Recommendation: Each student is required to submit two letters of recommendation from their present/past teachers. The letters of recommendations can only be submitted online, please click here for instructions to give to your child's teachers.

3) One page essay (12 size, Times Font, 250 words) essay answering the question "Why Do You Want to Study Science?".

The review of applications will begin on June 1st and will continue until all seats are filled.

Applicants will be notified by email when their application is complete, and are notified of the program’s admission decision by email, usually within two weeks of the application deadline date. If your child is selected, check payment will be due two weeks after acceptance date.  Please make check payable to: “The Research Corporation of Hawai‘i” or “RCUH” and mail it to the address below:

Eligibility

Be a middle school student in grades 7 to 8.
Be a resident of Hawai‘i state

Dress Code

All students will be required to purchase their own lab coat and bring their lab coat to class to participate in the lab. Students and chaperones will also be required to wear covered shoes. The UH bookstore also sells adult size lab coats.

We do not accept walk-ins or telephone reservations for the Saturday GENE-ius program. We cannot accept cash and will not honor reservations without payment. Also, payment for all Saturday GENE-ius session is non-refundable. If you have further questions, please visit our FAQ or us email us!
