Some consumer groups argue that foods derived from genetically
engineered crops should carry a special label. This is more than
a food safety issue, because some objections to transgenic foods
grow out of religious views or feelings of repugnance. Arguments
for or against labeling often focus on either safety or choice issues.
People who don't want to label transgenic foods are often approaching
the issue from a different ethical framework than are those who
do want to label. In the USA, these foods currently must be labeled
only if they are nutritionally different from a conventional food.
