Fundamentals of applied microbiology and biochemical reactor engineering, quantitative description of microbial growth, operational theory and design basis of aerobic, anoxic and anaerobic treatment processes. Applications for water, wastewater, air, solid wastes, and soil. (Cross-listed as CE 634)

Course Objectives

This course provides the graduate student to utilize the component of biological treatment fundamental and method for the wastewater treatment and reuse. Quantitative description of mixed microbial culture process kinetics will be presented and discussed in order to be able to relate the design and operation of a biological wastewater treatment process. Fundamental and application of various biological treatment processes will be presented and compared for the protection of environmental quality and valuable water resources. This course will assist the student to pursue the employment of the professional engineering company or pursue for further graduate study and instruction in the field of Environmental Engineering.
