Welcome to the Molecular Ecology Lab

Hawaii has one of the world's most fragile environments. As the world's most isolated island group, we also have the greatest number of endangered plant species. Our lab focuses on applying molecular techniques to the study of invasive species and the conservation of native plants. Research on invasive species uses DNA techniques to study how these plants spread and for their identification. Conservation research has focused on plant populations and is currently looking at gene flow from non-native related plant varieties.

LAB NEWS

Adam Vorsino and Marcianna Galambao at graduationAdam and Marcia march! Adam earned his PhD in Entomology and is continuing to do research at UH. Way to go Dr Adam! Marcia completed her Masters in Tropical Plant and Soil Sciences and returned to the Phillipines where she is happy to see her family again. We miss you Marcia.

Kelcie, our newest lab member joins us from the North Shore of Oahu . Welcome!

The DNA Today magazine is now a website. The site is a resource for classrooms at the 7-12 level and emphasizes technology in agriculture taking place here in Hawaii.

Ania has returned from an amazing sabbatical and is ready to take on the world again.
