Bacterial leaf blight of fishtail palm

 

SYMPTOMS: initial symptoms are small, water-soaked, translucent areas running along leaf veins; mature lesions are brown to black, having a chlorotic halo, and range from 1-2 mm wide and up to 50 mm long.  Initial infections often occur through hydathodes.

 

CAUSE: Pseudomonas avenae

 

CONTROL: eliminate overhead irrigation; preventive sprays of copper or antibiotic products; remove symptomatic leaves or entire plants.
