Premature or Uneven Ripening
premature noni
Premature or uneven ripening in section of a noni fruit.

Disorder: Premature or uneven ripening.

Symptoms: The main symptom of this condition is the precocious ripening of a section of a noni fruit. The remainder of the fruit ripens much later. This condition is associated with knobby or misshapen noni fruits. Knobby fruits are sometimes associated with high levels of phosphorous fertilizer.

Cause: The cause this condition is unknown.

Impact: Affected fruits are not marketable.

Control:
  1. If this condition occurs at your farm, consider reducing levels of phosphorous fertilizer.
  2. When starting a noni farm from seedlings, select noni fruit with desirable shape and size characteristics as a seed source.
