Purpose
The NREM Graduate Student Organization was established to provide graduate students of the Department of Natural Resources and Environmental Management a voice and forum within the department, university, and community.
Objectives
- To serve as a volunteer resource for both graduate and undergraduate students in the NREM department, and provide service opportunities dealing with a wide array of issues in natural resources across the Hawaiian Islands.
- To initiate and maintain co-curricular programs relevant to NREM students.
- To represent NREM graduate students in departmental decisions and faculty meetings.
- To advance the professional development of NREM graduate students.

Membership requirements
All members must attend two meetings and one service project/event per semester.
Events/Service Projects
NREM GSO members participating in Sherman courtyard cleanup.
NREM GSO holds monthly or bi-monthly events or service projects, designed to promote community within the NREM department and encourage volunteer service.
Events and service projects are open to ALL students in the NREM department, both undergraduate and graduate.
Professional Development Group
Bi-weekly meetings of the Professional Development Group provide a forum for scientific journal article review of foundational or seminal papers in our field(s), as well discussion of career-related topics including:
- Manuscript preparation and submission
- Applying for faculty positions
- Grant writing
- Review of scientific manuscripts
- Symposium organization
