The University of Hawaii College of Tropical Agriculture and Human Resources sponsors the Master Gardener Program. Volunteers are trained to solve gardening problems and give research-based advice to the public through our Master Gardener Plant Help Line, plant diagnostic clinics, and gardening presentations to local groups. The Master Gardeners also assist in maintaining demonstration gardens at the Urban Garden Center. Our volunteers are trained to help people learn to garden more productively.
The Master Gardener program is nation-wide. However, the system is organized at the county level in providing educational programs to fit local needs. Resources and administration are provided by personnel and volunteers with the College of Tropical Agriculture and Human Resources. Master Gardeners are provided training that enables them to help with home gardening problems.
Why become a Master Gardener Volunteer? As a Master Gardener, you can help home gardeners on Oahu. Many home gardeners are inexperienced in gardening in the tropics. You will be able to help educate school children, teachers, seniors, and homeowners. Being a Master gardener is fun, interesting, and rewarding.
