Extension responsibilities include diagnostic services, control recommendations, and implementation of current research protocols for household and structural pests throughout rural and urban areas of the State. Information is disseminated via telephone, television, radio, informational leaflets, and on-site consultations. Training programs are also conducted for members of the Hawaii Pest Control Association, extension agents, and special interest groups. Research interests include the biology, ecology, and control of the Formosan subterranean termite, Coptotermes formosanus Shiraki, Hawaii's most economically important insect pest.
