Food Science and Human Nutrition is a Bachelor of Science degree with three options:
Dietetic Option: This option is designed for students who want a career as a registered dietitian, a professional who provides people with nutritional counseling. The dietetic program at UH-Mānoa is the only one in Hawai‘i and is accredited by the American Dietetic Association. Students must complete a four-year BS degree and a 6–12 month internship. A sports and wellness emphasis can be added to this option.
Human Nutrition Option: This option assists students who want to prepare for graduate study in nutrition or food science or for professional schools such as medicine, dentistry, or pharmacy. A sports and wellness emphasis can be added to this option.
Food Science Option: This option provides skills development and training for individuals to be successful in new food product development, food safety and sanitation, and quality assurance/quality control.

The Food Science and Human Nutrition Council is the organization associated with this program. The College of Tropical Agriculture and Human Resources also has numerous other student organizations that provide you with the opportunity to meet new friends with similar interests and to participate in social, community-service, and field-related activities.
Are You Prepared?
You may enter any of the three Food Science and Human Nutrition options as a freshman, or you may transfer into the program. Transfer students must have a GPA of 2.8 or better. You are advised to contact the food science/human nutrition undergraduate advising coordinator of the Department of Human Nutrition, Food and Animal Sciences for further information on transferring.
