Symposium Guidelines

Presentation is limited to CTAHR (Manoa) and CAFNRM (Hilo) graduate and undergraduate students or other classified students whose research is performed under direct supervision of CTAHR or CAFNRM faculty. Work being reported can be, but is not limited to, thesis or dissertation research. Presentations on undergraduate research, review papers, or capstone projects carried out under the guidance of CTAHR or CAFNRM faculty are welcome. All presentations must represent original work performed by the presenting student.

Students are welcome and encouraged to submit abstracts even if they may have presented their findings at past CTAHR or CAFNRM Student Research Symposia. The work being presented, however, should contain some new results and should not be a repetition of a previous presentation. Oral or poster papers may be presented although there is a limit on the number of oral presentations that can be accommodated. If the symposium is unable to accommodate all abstracts submitted for oral presentation, some students will be asked to present posters instead.

A panel of judges will score each oral and poster presentation to determine award winners. First-prize winners in a particular category in previous years are not eligible for prizes in the same category. Again, to be eligible for prizes, original work or review papers must be presented. Students presenting work done at another university, e.g., a Ph.D. student presenting M.S. research done at another university, are not eligible for awards.

Students receiving Symposium awards will be recognized at CTAHR’s Annual Awards Banquet on Friday, May 9, 2008, at the Hilton Hawaiian Village Hotel.
