Instructions for Poster Presentations

Students are expected to be at their posters for a portion of the symposium to answer questions from judges and others about their research or review work. That period will be listed in the symposium program.

Due to space restrictions, only a limited number of posters will be allowed. Inclusion in the poster session will be based on the presenter’s preference and the date of receipt of the Abstract Submission Form and the abstract.

Each poster must be set up for display in the Agricultural Science Building on April 11, 2008. Foam boards and push pins for mounting the poster will be provided. Help will be available to assist in setting up the posters. Additional details on setting up posters will be forthcoming.

The maximum size for posters is 42 inches wide x 30 inches tall (99 cm x 79 cm). A one-piece poster made with a program such as Microsoft PowerPoint is highly recommended. Place the title, authors, and department affiliations at the top of the poster. The lettering for the title should be at least 1 inch (72 point) tall. The font size for text should be at least 1/4 inch (18 point), preferably larger. Keep in mind that the text and figures must be easily readable by viewers from a distance of at least 3 to 4 feet. Sans-serif fonts (such as Arial or Helvetica) are recommended. Avoid stylized or outline fonts and excessive italics. More information about printing posters for the symposium can be found at the CTAHR Computer Lab Website at http://agsci002.ctahr.hawaii.edu/215Portal/. Once in the site they must click on "Services", "Large Format Printing", "CTAHR Symposium Info".

Do not prepare a poster as if it were a manuscript. Keep text to a minimum; use tables and figures. Details of the work can be provided in discussions with interested viewers. A handout may be prepared, and copies made available during the poster session. When preparing your posters, remember that your judges and audience are from the broad range of disciplines within CTAHR.
