Heart Leaf Philodendron (Philodendron scandens oxycardium)

Background

The Heart Leaf Philodendron is commonly known as the sweetheart plant.  This plant is a climbing evergreen that has heart shaped leaves.  Its Latin and botanical name is derived from: phileo, to love and dendron, a tree.

Care

This plant is very good for beginner grows.  It will do well in very low lighting.  This plant grows very slowly.  The soil should remain moist at all times.  Watering should be from the top, let the water run all the way down and out the bottom holes.  When the soil feels remotely dry, water it again.

Miscellaneous

The growing tips should be pruned regularly so that it does not turn into a sparse and lanky plant.

Propagation

When pruning the growing root tips, put them into water or vermiculite to root these cuttings.  Now you have a need plant.  Transplant these cutting when the root systems become more defined.
