Strengthening individuals and families and fostering community collaborations are
complementary approaches in coping with change and transition. Extension programs
start within a community and are administered by organization members sensitive
to the needs, issues, concerns, and interests of individuals, families, and communities.
Extension programs in leadership and volunteer development, such as Family and Community
Education, Family Community Leadership, and other extension projects, focus on providing
community members with opportunities to learn life skills, develop leadership skills,
conduct educational programs, and build partnerships within their communities. CTAHR
has programs that produce positive impacts on and build upon the strengths of individuals,
families, and communities.
4-H Youth Development
4-H is one of the oldest and most effective programs of non-formal education in
Hawai‘i. 4-H is a community of young people across America who are learning leadership,
citizenship, and life skills.
Agricultural Leadership Program of Hawai‘i
Provides training in leadership, collaboration, strategic planning and facilitation
to individuals engaged in agricultural enterprises, community or organizational
development.

Center on the Family
The Center on the Family (COF) is a research and outreach center containing the
most comprehensive collection of data and information on Hawai‘i's children and families.
Ka ‘Aha Program
The Ka ‘Aha program emphasizes actions that help to connect generations – whether they are family, friends, neighbors, or strangers. It encourages participants to build understanding and connections by organizing intergenerational teams.
Financial Skills Programs (
MoneyEd)
A statewide educational project designed to increase your financial well-being.
You will be encouraged to develop prudent money management skills so that you may
work on increasing your savings, reducing your debt and achieving your goals.
‘Ohana Caregivers
Information on this site highlights programs and resources that support families in Hawai‘i who provide caregiving; especially those caring for grandchildren and older family members. Tips and suggestions on how to protect your loved ones from being victims of healthcare fraud are included.
Resources, Instruction & Issues in Consumer Education (RIICE)
Assists Hawai‘i's households with family resource management, financial literacy,
and consumer decision-making by offering non-formal educational projects and activities
throughout the state. This website provides links to current projects as well as
related resources in order to strengthen the capacity of consumers in improving
the quality of their lives.
