Dr. Joe DeFrank made a presentation at the 18th Annual Crop Protection Services Seminar and Trade Show on May 11, 2018 at the Honolulu Country Club. He discussed the need for compliance with the Worker Protection Standard Training when non-agricultural establishment like golf course and parks produce bedding plants, flowers and turf plugs. Previous research (2016-2017) on Bermuda grass and Goose grass was condensed into suggested protocols for weedy grass control on seashore paspalum greens. Factors such as time of year in Hawaii and turf drainage condition were factors to consider for maximum weed control and turf safety. Seminar participants provided verbal input on specific practices as they related to weed control effectiveness of herbicide spray applications.
The research that provides the basis on the weed control protocols discussed in this presentation are provided in the master's of science defense seminar and thesis of AJ Lindsey.
