Master Gardener Training: Weed Science-2015

  On March 27, 2015, Dr. Joe DeFrank made a presentation to the 2015 Master Gardener class dealing with a wide range of topics dealing with weed control in turf landscapes and gardens.  A summary of the topics discussed in provided below: 

  1. Selected online resources for weed identification and control recommendations.

  2. Weed control in turf, considerations for maximum turf health.

  3. Problems weeds in warm season turf, a quick visual review.

  4. Biology and control options for purple nutsedge.

  5. Using geotextile fabric for weed control, cover crop management and non-chemical turf renovation.

    1. Establishment of native Hawaiian plants on roadside areas to prevent the spread of invasive species.

Suggested method to view streaming media and slideshow:

1.  Open two browser windows of this page, one will be used to view the "talking head" as video and the other will be used to view the slide show images as an Adobe pdf. 

2.  Click on the link to "view lecture", let the program download and start then hit pause.

3.  In the second window open the pdf version of the slide show and once the first slide appears return to lecture video and resume play.

3.  With two windows open, you can follow the lecture video for the cues to change the slide image.
