Time Of year Considerations for Grassy Weed control in Warm Season turf - 2015
by Dr. Joe DeFrank
On January 29, 2015, Dr. Joe DeFrank made a presentation that covered a variety of turf weed control related topics at the 2015 edition of the Pacific Agricultural Sales & Service Trade Show held at the Pearl Country Club in Honolulu. Images of problem grassy weeds were provided then followed by a discussion of research and on-site case studies that provide detailed protocols for Goose and Love grass control in Bermuda grass managed as sport turf in Hawaii. Emphasis was provided on visual weed responses as cues for the proper timing of sequential herbicide applications. Time of year (in Hawaii) considerations for herbicide selection, sequence and time for turf recovery were described. The final sections deals with methods of applying herbicide labeled rates on very small areas (mini-broadcast) using the TeeJet's MeterJet spray gun and the use of a herbicide wiper used to control weeds in 8 acres of a newly planted seashore paspalum.
