Establishing native Hawaiian Plants on roadsides and 2016/17 turf weed control research - 2017

  On January 19, 2017, Dr. Joe DeFrank made a presentation that covered a variety of turf weed control related topics at the 2017 edition of the Pacific Agricultural Sales & Service Trade Show held at the Pearl Country Club in Honolulu.  A set of considerations were presented to improve the establishment success of planting native Hawaiian plants in roadside landscapes.  Pre-plant weed control was a major part of Dr. DeFrank discussion on giving native a chance to establish in an very challenging landscape environment.  The response of four native Hawaiian plants to two rates of Ronstar G, applied immediately after transplanting was presented with application rates recommended for specific species presented.  A summary of the turf grass weed science research was presented followed by new research started in late 2016 with followed planned for 2017.
