Dr. Joe DeFrank made a presentation to the 2026 Spring semester of PEPS 421 Foundations of Pest Management on Feburary 23, 2026. His lecture topics were:
Online resources for weed ID and chemical weed control
Environmental factors for healthy turf
Common problem broadleaf, grass and sedge weeds in turf
Herbicides for turf weeds
Non-chemical turf renovation
Drones for use in turf management
Automated animal grazing for turf and other landscaped areas.
The use of chickens, equipped with night vision goggles for night time insect control.
This presentation was delivered in person on the UH Manoa campus as a guest speaker for Dr. Z. Cheng.

Suggested method to view streaming media and slideshow:
1. Open two browser windows of this page, one will be used to view the "talking head" and the other will be used to view the slide show images as an Adobe pdf.
2. Click on the link to "view lecture", let the program download and start then hit pause.
3. In the second window open the pdf version of the slide show and once the first slide appears return to lecture video and resume play.
