A blister is a large, swollen patch of tissue on leaves or fruit.

Etymology. c.1300, from O.Fr. blestre, perhaps from a Scand. source (cf. O.N. blastr "a blowing," dat. blęstri "swelling"), or from M.Du. blyster "swelling," from the root of blast (q.v.). The verb meaning "to raise blisters on" is from 1496.
