Definition

Sore shin is the name of a potato disease that affects the stem of the plant.  It is caused by the plant-pathogenic fungus, Rhizoctonia solani.

Discussion

Sore shin lesions can kill a potato plant.  Affected plants turn yellow, then wilt and turn brown and die. The fungus survives as black sclerotia on the epidermis of potato tubers.
