Jaymee Wakumoto's internship with NEW fulfilled her community rotation requirements for Loma Linda University's Dietetic Internship program. Loma Linda University is a Seventh-day Adventists educational health-sciences institution located in Southern California. Jaymee engaged in a variety of professional learning experiences by working with many of NEW's staff and their respective projects. A major part of her internship was to develop a webpage that provides relevant information and resources to residents of Hawaii that focuses on key messages of eXtension's Families, Food and Fitness resource area which aim to promote healthy lifestyles, such as preparing and eating more meals at home, enjoying more fruits and vegetables and moving more everyday.

Rhoda Castillo's internship with NEW fufilled her community rotation requirements for Marywood University's Distance Dietetic Internship. The goal was for Rhoda to learn and experience community nutrition by working with NEW projects including the Expanded Food and Nutrition Education Program (EFNEP) and the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program-Education (SNAP-Ed). The focus of her internship efforts was to be part of a team piloting the Health Kids Club at a local elementary school, which included a variety of lessons that encouraged adoption of healthy eating attitudes and behaviors.

Mele Fernandez

Mele Fernandez’s internship with NEW fulfilled her community rotation requirements for her long-distance dietetic internship at the University of Northern Colorado. The goal of the internship was to create innovative outcomes-based curricula for the Nutrition Service’s for Older Adult’s - Good Grinding for Wise Dining project, and provide support for the Hawaii Child Care Nutrition Program (HCCNP), Expanded Food and Nutrition Education Program (EFNEP), and the CTAHR Agricultural Awareness event.
