Gobo
Gobo, also called burdock (Arctium lappa). The plant has a long edible tap root and large, rough textured almost heart shaped leaves. The plant is probably from Asia and reaches 3-4 feet tall.
Soil
Management
Can be grown in a wide range of soils but for root development,
well drained, deep sandy loamy soils are best. Low nitrogen and high phosphorus
favor root development.
Planting
Soak seeds in water overnight before planting. Plant seeds in trays
then transplant seedlings or direct seed in sunny locations. Close spacing encourages
long, narrow roots.
Irrigation
Regular
watering.
Insect
& Disease Control
No major pest problems.
Harvesting
Dig roots 6-8 months after seeding. The tap root can reach 2-3 feet long.
