Pineapple

Pineapple (Ananus comosus). Pineapple comes from the Americas, has long stiff narrow leaves that can be used for texture in the landscape. The plant grows 3-4 feet tall in most cases. The edible fruit grows in the center of the plant. The flower-fruit colors include pink and lavender when young.

Soil Management
Prefers well drained, fertile, acidic soils with organic matter.

Planting
The plants can be grown from slips or crowns spaced 12 inches apart.

Irrigation
Moderate irrigation.

Insect & Disease Control
Nematodes and mealy bugs.

Harvesting
The first fruit is usually harvested 18-24months after planting the slips. Subsequent ratoon crops are usually smaller.
