UH Insect Museum Open House
Friday, February 17, 2017. 2:00-5:00 pm
Category: Exhibits.  Location: Gilmore Hall 607a, Oahu.

To (belatedly) celebrate Darwin’s 208th Birthday, show off the great facility the UH Insect Museum has become, and introduce folks to the world of insects, the Museum will be open to visitors from 2 to 5 p.m. on Friday, February 17, in Gilmore Hall 607a. There will be a series of exciting activities and exhibits including specimen preparation of tiny moths, the size of a grain of rice (you thought writing on a grain of rice was hard!); live Kamehameha butterflies; the Great Digitization project to digitize each of nearly 250,000 specimens in the Museum; a hallway full of insect displays, including the living menagerie; and the Insect Sort-a-thon: try your hand at identifying insects and distinguishing species of moths from among raw field specimens! Get your picture taken with the museum mascot Buzz, the biggest fruit fly you’ve ever seen! Come wish Darwin a Happy Birthday—all who are interested are welcome!! Heavy pupus and some insect-based snacks will be available.
