MICHAEL JONES ACCEPTS APPOINTMENT AS COUNTRY COORDINATOR

        A search for the project’s country coordinator ended on July 1, 2005 with the appointment of Mr. Michael Jones.  He was a Peace Corps volunteer in Manatuto since his arrival two years ago. 

        Mr. Jones holds a BA in economics from the University of Puget Sound and a MA in Regional Planning from Cornell University.   He worked in Washington, Utah, Montana and California before deciding to return to school at Cornell.  After spending a few years in Oakland, he traveled to India to work with Tibetian refugees.  Subsequently, he joined the Peace Corps and served as community development advisor in Manatuto, East Timor for two years to May 2005.

         During his service with the Peace Corps, Jones participated in training courses organized by Dr. JB Friday and John Powley of the University of Hawaii on agro forestry and animal husbandry in Baucau. 

        Jones will assume the position on July 16, 2005 upon his return to Dili after completion of orientation at the University of Hawaii
