Zinc (Zn). Along with Fe, Zn is an essential component of several metallo-enzymes in plants. Zn plays a special role in RNA and protein synthesis (Zinc-finger proteins).
Like Fe, Zn deficiency causes interveinal chlorosis on younger leaves. However, Zn def. symptoms are more defined, appearing as chlorotic bands or stripes on both sides of the leaf midrib as shown here for corn.
