Research Interests

• Soil chemistry with particular interest in organic matter management (e.g., composting, biochar as a soil amendment, agricultural use of sewage sludge), and in monitoring of environmental pollution.
• Soil acidity, Aluminum and manganese chemistries, organic soil amendments and plant nutrition with focus on nutritional requirements of tree crops, especially coffee, or its processing waste water guava, and macadamia.
• Organic Farming.and Environmental Remediation, especially arsenic chemistry.

• Chemistry and Bioavailability of Waste Constituents in Hawaii Soils
• Impacts of soil acidity and nematodes on coffee growth
• Phytoremediation of marine dredged materials and Arsenic-contaminated soils in Hawaii.
