Urban Horticulture

The Pearl City Urban Garden Center on O‘ahu is the flagship facility for home and urban gardening and is also home to the first and largest Master Gardeners Program in Hawai'i.

The Urban Garden Center, a program of the University of Hawai‘i College of Tropical Agriculture and Human Resources' O‘ahu Cooperative Extension Service focuses on an one stop urban horticulture educational center concept for the public. Local school outreach programs are available to gardeners. One of the largest collections of turfgrasses, ground covers, hedges, and citrus in the state occupy the site.

The O‘ahu Master Gardener Program Volunteers are trained to solve gardening problems and give research-based advice to the public through our Master Gardener Plant Help Line, plant diagnostic clinics, and gardening presentations to local groups. The Master Gardeners also assist in maintaining demonstration gardens at the Urban Garden Center. Volunteers are trained to help people learn to garden more productively.
