Fruits Stunted and Deformed
  • BBTD is diagnosed by identifying symptoms of diseased plants or by submitting a banana leaf sample for virus testing
  • Banana plants with Banana Bunchy Top Disease (BBTD) rarely produce viable bunches, and may not even flower at all
  • When very small or young banana plants show symptoms of BBTD, they rarely flower or bear fruit

Fruits Stunted and Deformed
Banana plants may bear fruit if the plants are infected late enough in their development. However, in such cases the bunches and fruits may be stunted, twisted or otherwise deformed and of little use.
