Human issues in horticulture covers a wide expanse of disciplines such
as:

Given this diversity, funding sources can encompass a wide variety of
sources. Listed below are some previous examples.

Hyland R. Johns Grant Program
Since 1975, the International Society of Arboriculture (ISA) Research Trust has awarded small grants to aid, stimulate, and encourage scientific studies of trees. As of 1996, the granting programs have been expanded to include the Hyland R. Johns Grant Program, which provides funds in excess of $5,000 to qualified researchers for projects of interest and benefit to the arboriculture industry. Research must be in keeping with the mission statement of the research trust. American Floral Endowment Proposals
The American Floral Endowment is the floral industy's largest non-governmental, not-for-profit research and educational funding source serving the needs of all industry segments. Funding dollars are made possible through private contributions. Since 1961, the Endowment has allocated over $9 M for scientific research and development efforts to develop and improve the industry. Yearly allocations for funding of scientific research, educational programs and statistical/marketing data collection approched $1 M. Proposals submitted to the American Floral Endowment may be submitted throughout the year, but requests are usually only considered in the fall.

Charles a. Lindberg Fund
Support: Research or dissertation; Operating or general. Academic background required: Doctorate or equivalent professional. Citizenship required: U.S. citizen; Permanent U.S. resident; Other. Agency type: Non-federal Grants of up to $10,580 are awarded for support of projects that represent a significant contribution toward the achievement of a balance between technological progress and the preservation of the natural environment. Emphasis is placed on resolving the conflict between technological growth and the preservation of the environment. The Fund is particularly interested in proposals in the following areas: aviation/aerospace, agriculture, biomedical research, conservation of natural resources, health and population sciences, intercultural communication, oceanography, waste disposal management, wildlife preservation, the arts and humanities, water resource management, and exploration.

Horticultural Research Institute
(HRI) Grants
Grants are generally announced in November and awarded in January of the
upcoming year. The deadline for this procedure is May 1, of the year of

Bedding Plants Foundation, Inc.
Horticulturists and researchers in related sciences are invited to submit research proposals for funding by Bedding Plants Foundation, Inc. BPFI has a policy of not funding overhead or travel expenses. Grants range from $2,000 to $7,000.
A survey of growers indicated that research priorities are on production, not marketing; consumers' issues; or the role of horticulture in the human environment, so you may wish to call first.
