Fruit cracking

Cracked noni fruit

Pathogen: None. The disease is not caused by a pathogen or pest. The disease is presumably caused by drastic or abrupt changes in humidity during fruit maturation and ripening.

Symptoms: Large, dry cracks in fruit surface.

Disease distribution: Unknown, but presumed to be ubiquitous.

Control:
  1. There is no known control measure where noni is grown outdoors.
Notes: This is probably the first report of this disease in the Pacific and worldwide, although it is unlikely that the disease is actually confined to Hawaii.
