Extension/Research Interests :


Tropical fruit and nut production with an emphsis on macadamia, lychee, longan, rambutan and coffee. Responsibilities: Develop a balanced program of problem-solving research dealing with the culture, management and production of fruit and nut crops important to Hawaii; support the county programs for the Island of Hawaii; cooperate with other researchers and extension staff; interact with fruit industry groups. Coordinate all CTAHR extension programs for the macadamia industry. Inquiries regarding macadamia production are forwarded to me and communication is established to educate clients via farm visits, meetings, phone, correspondence or email. Recommendations are made on planting, pruning, propagation, pest management, variety selection, and crop nutrition. Orchard recommendations for corrective actions are based on interpreting soil and tissue analyses and making farm visits to visually assess orchard conditions and identify causes of field problems.
