This is another revision of a segment from Steve Fukuda's "Farming Preparation for Discharged Sugar Workers" series, with additional visuals incorporated. Dr. Valenzuela provides a basic look at plant botany to start off the program, with a brief description of the photosynthesis process, then identifies the major plant parts and functions. He proceeds to list the primary, secondary and minor nutrients required by plants as well as other factors that influence their growth and development. Along with this information, he also provides a description of nutrient deficiency symptoms. The program wraps with a section on the importance maintaining the proper balance of the different nutrients and tips on diagnosing problems with growing problems on farms or in your gardens.

CERWA, or Compost Education and Resources for Western Agriculture, is a SARE group who has done so in the area of composting. It is a cooperative effort comprised of 16 compost specialists and agricultural professionals interested in composting from eight states and provinces in the Western U.S. and Canada. Their latest educational effort, a video production called - " The Future of Agricultural Composting and Compost Uses", includes a segment on Unisyn Biowaste, here in Hawai`i. This segment relates some of the positive and negative effects of regulations, and how it can affect composting operations. Initially instigated by Jim Hollyer, who is a member of the CERWA Project Team, CTAHR Video assisted with videotaping and acquisition of footage from Hawai`i. This was sent to Ben Troka and Bob Rynk at the University of Idaho, who then edited it into the production. However, this video production also includes information about new compost technologies, future usage and marketing of composting products, along with thoughts about regulatory issues.
