Magnesium (Mg) is a key constituent of chlorophyll, and a co-factor in several enzyme systems controlling phosphorylation.
Since Mg is mobile, its deficiency symptoms first appear as interveinal chlorosis on lower (older) leaves. In corn, the leaves are yellowish or very light green striped while veins remain green.
