This demonstration wastewater treatment system at CTAHR's Waialee Livestock Research Station on Oahu's North Shore uses the anaerobic biocarrier reactor and the biopottery-windmill pond cleanup system to clean milking parlor waste. In this energy-efficient system, the windmill pumps air into the open tank.

Liangjie Dong compares dairy wastewater samples before and after they have been treated by bacteria in an innovative water treatment system developed by CTAHR. The treatment removes 90 percent of contaminants from the wastewater, allowing the treated water to be used to irrigate cow pasture.
