Pacific Agriculture Communicator's Workshop

Purpose:
To increase communication abilities of information disseminators and trainers in the entire Pacific region. The increased sharing of agricultural and resource information, for the well being of the people of the Pacific, will be the short and long term outcome of this workshop.

Ag Day Festival '99 - learn about how we show and tell the people of Hawaii about the importance of agriculture.

Introduction of everyone!

Session Goal: everyone understands how web works, what a browser does, and will have understanding of why we're learning html, PDF's, etc.

Photoshop basics - Barb
- Create graphic for print 
- images from digital camera 
- Go into Pagemaker and put in image (slide that has been 'reworked)
Session Goal: depending on Photoshop skill, Participants will be able to do something with a photo to prepare it for print, beginners will crop and correct, more advanced may play with filters for cool edge of photo.

HTML basics - Barb
- Text, headers, lists, colors, links

Also, Building a better web site -- advanced with CC if there is a need...
Session Goal: participants will be able to make a web site. If more advanced, will understand tips/tricks to design more wisely

Breakout Sessions depending on interest/need
- Quicktime movies for web, digitizing - CC
- Pagemaker/Acrobat info - George
- Photoshop - Barb
-CD burning demo, CC
Session Goal: ability for participants to improve skills in any one of the areas covered previously

Ag Day Festival '99

Design Basics- George
-Basics of Design 
-PageMaker training 
-Produce PDF
Session Goal: using print as medium, participants will develop their design skills, improving use of space, etc. Participants will also get beginnings of PageMaker, and know how to generate a PDF.

5:00 approx. Working dinner.

Zooming with Exchange- George
- Acrobat, using Exchange to modify it: rotating, cropping, deleting, linking 
- maybe scanning document to OCR to PDF
Session Goal: begin to understand 'programming' in Exchange, using as layout, multimedia tool, create exchange document

More with HTML/Editors- Barb
-HTML image placement, tables, design discussion, 
- possibly using an editor
- Photoshop creating gif/jpg, put in web page.
Session Goal: by end, participants will have made own web page, and understand difference in image types, and in using html or a web editor.

Joint Session
- wrap up
Session Goal: understand how to write a CD-ROM. Each participant will have a CD with their ag day experience documented
