High School Students! Get Ready!
It's never too early to prepare for a career in agriculture. Here are some helpful hints to consider while you’re in high school and find out about activities you can participate in outside the classroom.

Talk to your high school counselors!
Your counselor can give you good advice on what courses to take and what types of activities can prepare you for college. They can also show you what you will need to enroll in Leeward Community College Plant Biology and Tropical Agriculture program.

Participate in school and state science fairs!
Every time you enter a science fair, you’ll learn more about agriculture and science. It’s fun competition outside of classroom learning!

Find a mentor!
A mentor can help steer you in the right direction, and put you on a path that will lead to a rewarding job in agriculture. Someone who is knowledgeable about agriculture and knows what’s best for you can be your guide and coach.

Apply for summer interships!
Internships offer valuable real-world experience. This will make it easier to transition to the workforce after you receive your two-year Associate of Art degree in Plant Biology and Tropical Agriculture program at Leeward Community College or decide to pursue a four-year degree at the UH CTAHR.
