American Samoa Water Quality Projects
Project Title: Stream water quality monitoring
Project Leader: Don Vargo (ASCC)
Agency: ASCC Department of Community and Natural Resources & ASEPA
Water Quality data is collected monthly from 49 streams on the island of Tutuila, American Samoa. Samples are tested for the following parameters: pH, conductivity, turbidity, dissolved oxygen, temperature, and salinity. All laboratory samples are processed at the ASCC Water Quality laboratory and tested for soluble phosphate, nitrate-N, ammonia-N, calcium, magnesium, potassium, and sodium. American Samoa Stream
Data collected also contributes to the American Samoa Environmental Protection Agency (ASEPA) monitoring program. This information assists ASEPA in helping prepare its annual report to Congress (Clean Water Act). Cooperation between the two agencies has enabled a wider range of data to be collected.
