Background
Christmas Cactus is easy to grow indoors.
Christmas Cactus usually can be found in stores around the
holiday season but can be grow and flower all year round.
Christmas Cactus comes in a wide variety of colors from
yellow, salmon, pink, fuchsia, or white. Christmas
Cactus can even come in a combination of these colors.
Care
For more blooms, Christmas Cactus does better
under high light intensity. Soil in the Christmas
Cactus pot should be well drained. Christmas Cactus is
not a true cactus and is not very drought tolerant. In
the spring when new growth appears, fertilize your Christmas
Cactus with a weak liquid solution for about 2 to 3 weeks.
Miscellaneous
Christmas Cactus easy to
grow but difficult to bloom. Do not allow your plant
to dry out. Cool temperature and long nights will
cause the Christmas Cactus to bloom. You can create
long nights by keeping them in complete darkness. Stop
fertilizing when the buds start to form.
Propagation
When a Christmas Cactus is taken care of it can
grow to an unmanageable size. Christmas cactus can be
propagated by cutting Y-shaped pieces from the stem tips.
Place the cuttings into a peat and perlite mixture.
Water sparingly to prevent your cuttings from rotting.
